![]() ![]() The liberal reader which is me cringes when confronted with structural racism in the judicial system (how many black judges there are in the UK? and how many black prisoners?). So deep are the ramifications of racism, that we (white readers) are hardly aware and for this reason this book is a healthy reading. That is, by the way, the beginning of the insurance industry, something we benefit today. But do we know, and do we celebrate the many episodes of resistance against slavery? Do we know, that one out of ten ships full of human beings, was sabotaged by the victims who preferred death to slavery? One out of ten. And of course we all reject slavery (and have celebrated the end of apartheid in South Africa). ![]() ![]() Of course, slavery is the beginning of the problems. Have you aver tried to frame the conflict in Northern Ireland, or the Mafia wars, as "white on white violence"? It forces you to confront with your own prejudices and to dig deep under expressions such as "black-on-black violence" that you most probably have somewhere in your mind as a category to (not) understand the news. This is a difficult book to read, if you are white. ![]()
